Get Moving

We offer Get Out Get Active and Movement Matters sessions which are designed to get you moving and feeling great.

Here at SAM we have a variety of activities on offer to get you moving, so you feel good, physically and mentally.

South Tyneside Get Out Get Active is an exciting programme that supports disabled and non-disabled people to enjoy being active together. The idea is to get everyone moving more through fun and inclusive activities. Everyone is welcome, regardless of ability or age.

There are two exercise classes per week, both being held at our New Green Street premises in South Tyneside. One is our ‘Seated Swans’ class at 1pm-2pm on Thursdays and the other is a seated exercise class 1pm-2pm Fridays. Both are delivered by an expert physical training instructor.

These sessions are made possible thanks to support from the Foundation of Light and their Get Out Get Active programme, which is funded by Spirit of 2012, Sport England and London Marathon Foundation.

Movement Matters sessions are delivered by Active Families North East, thanks to funding from the Sport England Movement Fund (provided by the National Lottery).

We’re working with our community to design the sessions, which aim to get people moving more, supporting physical and mental wellbeing. Participants will enjoy seated exercises, with the possibility of further activities. The sessions are delivered by specially-trained professional instructors in a group setting.

Sessions are available in South Shields and Gateshead, and are for anyone with a long-term health condition, including sight and hearing loss. One class is on a Monday at 1pm-2:30pm at our New Green Street premises in South Tyneside. The other session is delivered in Gateshead at Pattinson House from 12:30-2pm. Both sessions comprise of a 45 minute seated exercise routine followed by 45 minutes for socialising, which includes tea and coffee. All sessions and refreshments are free of charge.

If you’re interesting in taking part, or you know someone who might like to, get in touch today or make a referral and we can take it from there.
